Down with Disease > Mike’s Song > Simple > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove - Phish
7.22.97 - Walnut Creek, Raleigh NC
This show is Phish’s next live DVD release, which comes out August 5th. You can pre-order it here.
I was lucky enough to attend it in person in the reserved seating section, thus avoiding the wrath of mother nature as a torrential downpour soaked Walnut Creek that night.
I have two very specific musical memories from that night. This one is my favorite. Listen closely to the DWD > Mike’s segue. It is monumental.
Taste - Phish
7.22.97 - Walnut Creek, Raleigh NC
Over on their mySpace and Facebook sites, Phish has released a mp3 of Taste from the 7.22.97 show, which will be available on DVD August 5th. You can pre-order it here.
Last week, I posted an audience version of DWD > Mike’s > Simple > I am H2O > Weekapaug from this same show, which was my favorite musical moment of the night. The second, and it’s a close second, is this Taste. Walnut Creek was soaked by a hellacious thunderstorm during the first set with the climax occurring during Taste. You can hear the thunder in the background during Page’s solo, and then again towards the end of Trey’s solo. Can’t wait to see this on DVD.

The Mother Ship
Hampton, VA
There is a reason Phish put out “Hampton Comes Alive.” As if by definition, any Phish show at Hampton Colesium is, well, colossal. There is something about that place. (The Dead had some good runs there too, by the way.) Sadly, I missed this hometown gig, but I’m pretty sure Graham and Todd were there.
Shot Down - Agents Of Good Roots
12.13.97 The Floodzone Richmond, VA
one of my favorite bands. i have probably seen them live more than any other band on my live show list. the mid-late ‘90’s were hot and this foursome was kicking it up on the college scene. i remember sitting on the balcony at south main cafe (blacksburg, va) in awe many a night.
i caught this show while i was home on winter break. it was pretty mellow, but definitely a good time.
i know there are some other AGR fans out there that will enjoy this post. i mention this ‘cause i know i’m gonna catch flack from at least one other OS contributer;)

Vultures - Phish
7.22.97 - Walnut Creek, Raleigh NC
Our good friends over at Hidden Track got their hands on a full-length clip of Vultures from Phish’s upcoming Walnut Creek DVD.
We have lots more from Walnut Creek - check out audio versions of Taste and DWD > Mike’s > Simple > I am H2O > Weekapaug.
Bathtub Gin - Phish
7.21.97 - Virginia Beach Amphitheater, Virginia Beach VA
When I got home today, Walnut Creek was waiting for me in the mailbox. We’ve plastered highlights from the 7.22.97 show over the past few weeks in anticipation of the release of the new Phish DVD. So instead of posting another (just buy the friggin’ DVD already!) my Phish pick this week is from the night before. This is one of my favorite Gins of all time. Setlist
Mike’s Song > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove - Phish
11.22.97 - Hampton, VA
This is one of my favorite Weekapaugs of all time. It was the show opener of the second night of what I feel was the best Hampton run of all time. Then they followed up this trio with “Harry Hood”. I recall a buddy thinking the show was over after the first set because it was so *epic* (well and maybe there were some other factors too).
Bathtub Gin - Phish
8.17.1997 - The Great Went, Loring Air Foce Base, Limestone, ME
This is one of the best Gins ever played, and fitting for the first Phish Friday on The Butter Room, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the 21st Amendment repealing prohibition in the U.S.
I can’t wait to be back with all of you at a festival next summer, hopefully sharing in the groove of another monsterous Gin.

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
