Give Me The Cure - Fugazi
4.5.95 Irving Plaza, New York, NY
This was the 2nd Fugazi show I ever attended, the first being at the now defunct Academy, also in NY. They always put on a great show, and I can’t think of a band out there (well, used to be out there) that was more accommodating of its fans - tickets were always $5.
Carini - Phish
12.30.97 - MSG, NYC NY
Most of you probably know by now that Phish released 12/30/97 on LivePhish.com earlier this week. This show is phenomenal. It was in heavy rotation for me back in the day. Buy it already.
Twist - Phish
5.23.00 - Roseland Ballroom, NY, NY
Since the band’s mid-to-late 90’s ascension as one of the most powerful live performing acts in America, Phish has rarely returned to small venues. Your best chance in the late 90’s was to travel abroad and find them in a European theater (see: Winter 1997, Summer 1998). Many of these theaters were nearly perfect for the multi-dimensional soundscapes found in both their compositions and extended improvisation. By 2000, Phish had conquered the outdoor sheds across the country, selling out wherever they went. And for this reason, when Phish announced four small shows following Big Cypress (their largest live performance to date), fans scrambled for a way to get themselves into an intimate atmosphere. The band’s shows didn’t disappoint, and of the four theater shows, Roseland may pack the biggest punch.
The Fox Theater show will be Phish’s smallest performance since the Roseland, and to say I feel blessed to have - miraculously? - scored a ticket along with fellow Butter Room contributor Euphonic Brew is an understatement! I have a feeling this summer tour is going to be phenomenal.
One of the few times Phish actually delivered a bust out that everyone expected. This is the final track from the new board track compilation posted over on Hidden Track this week. Hope you enjoyed it!

Fly Like An Eagle - Steve Miller Band
6.12.76 - Beacon Theatre, New York, NY

(photo via)
In May 1976, Steve Miller Band released their 9th studio album, Fly Like An Eagle. The album rocketed up the charts, and went platinum four times over. This show finds SMB at the height of their success, and sounding very good. The album’s title track was originally recorded in 1973 with a blusier, less funk-infused sound. However, the song’s guitar hook actually originated from Miller’s 1969 recording of “My Dark Hour,” featuring Paul McCartney.
You can download the entire show in two parts: Part I | Part II

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
