Fluffhead - Phish
10.31.86 / Sculpture Room - Goddard College / Plainfield, VT
This comes from the Archives show at The Great Went. Trey plays DJ for about 5-10 minutes before Fluffhead comes on.
I finally bought a video capture device so I can transfer some old VHS bootlegs to the interwebs. I am the first to admit that these videos aren’t perfect quality, but they are worthy enough to be enjoyed. In addition, I don’t believe many of the vids that I have are online.
First up is the classic Halloween ‘96 show by Phish when they cover Remain In Light. Graham and I were at this show, and it was a mind-numbing experience, definitely one of the Top Ten concerts that I have ever been to. I will be posting one song per day from this show until I reach the end of my stash. First up is the amazing jam from Reba.
Many of the songs from this video are clipped, which is unfortunate, but there is still enough prime meat to enjoy. This classic Forbins > Mockingbird is the first example. I did a quick search on YouTube and Google and could not find this anywhere, so hopefully this video will be new to you or one you haven’t seen in years because you had it on VHS as well. :)
As you’ll see, this video has a few cuts in it, but it’s still worth the post. You get a lot of good looks into the first few rows of the crowd here, which is cool to see. God, I wish the boys would bust out The Great Curve. Enjoy!
This wraps up all of the video I had from Halloween Night 1996. If you want to watch any again, you can find them on our Vimeo site.
Black Sabbath - Widespread Panic
10.31.92 - Georgia Theatre, Athens, GA
Far be it from the heat to ever turn down a challenge, but this time I am going to have to concede to the fine gentlemen of the Chicago TBR. Due to a clusterf*ck of a schedule over the past week, weekend and today, I admit defeat. It sucks, I know. It was such a simple challenge. The potential for Phish Halloween (this year, the Ocho) to be darker, scarier, and dirtier than Panic Halloween. Really, Chicago?…Really? Kids these days?!? Go Home, Hippies.
Just the mere grit from JB’s throat and the dark bottom from a Schools bass line should be enough to stand alone in triumph.
That being said I will take my loss with grace this go round.
ROUND 1: Chitown
(p.s. As time permits through the day today I will do my best to post some video dirt from Panic’s past. Happy Halloween to all!! BOO!!!)
Enter Sandman - Widespread Panic
10/31/2007 - Civic Center, Asheville, NC
This 2nd set opener (1st set was Welcome to My Nightmare) would’ve been a whole hell of a lot cooler if Halloween ‘07 had been in Blacksburg, instead of Ashevegas. I was lucky enough to be at this one, and I can tell you for a fact the roof got blown off. I am still slightly haunted still to this day by the Children of the Grave encore.
Our backdrop contains the fiery depths of Hell and our frontman is the Devil. What do you think Ocho will have as a backdrop? My bet is, it will be Teletubbies Wonderland and Gordo dressed as a…., well maybe we don’t need to get into that.
Love ya, Chicago!
(p.s. On another note, nice dismantling of BC this weekend by the Hokies. This is in honor of you.)
99 Albums in 4:20 - Eclectic Method
Played as a live intro to Phish’s Exile On Main St. Set 10.31.09 - Empire Polo Club, Indio, CA
One of the coolest parts of the Ocho was the cover set of The Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street. However, this intro video that came on 4:20 before the set started got everyone dancing and going nuts as Phish took the stage, putting an end to the game that so many of us have enjoyed the past month! Give it a watch, it sums up some of the best artists and albums in rock and roll history!

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
