2001 > Run Like An Antelope - Phish
06.11.94 - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO
In anticipation of what I truely believe (or at least hope) will be the best Phish I’ve seen live, here is a pick from the show that first got me hooked on Phish ten years ago, and to this day stands as my all time favorite show. This show falls during one of the best tours the band had throughout their history, and is one of those shows where it feels like every single note was specially chosen and precisely played that it could not sound any other way.
You Enjoy Myself > Rift - Phish
06.11.94 - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO
Though not my prediction for Friday’s first pick (despite Trey’s left nut), this YEM is one of the best ever, followed by a vocal jam that transitions seamlessly into Rift. It might be argued that Mike did not fully step into his own until later in the decade, but shows like these definitely solidified his spot as the driving force behind the band.
In what one can only describe as a Phishmas miracle, Ticketmaster not only added 4-day passes for Phish’s July 30-Aug 2 run at Red Rocks to their site, but made them available for immediate purchase. As I returned from dinner, I sat down at my computer and pulled up my usual collection of sites these days: Tumblr, Twitter, and Phantasy Tour. I’ve been trying to work out a few trades for the June leg of summer tour in hopes of re-securing my Fox Theatre ticket, as well as possibly obtaining an Asheville ticket, and PT has proven quite successful for executing past trades (including all 3 of my Hampton tickets for near face).
Tonight, however, thanks to PT user gooneybird, fellow Butter Room resident Eugene and I will be attending all four nights of the Red Rocks run barring unforseen circumstances. Gooneybird’s “RED ROCKS 4 day passes on tm” thread was sitting at the top of the board, just posted with no replies. Without even opening the thread I rushed to ticketmaster.com and purchased 2 4-day passes. And then I purchased two more. And two more after that.
Whether this was an error or simply a sneaky pre-sale remains to be seen, but Ticketmaster should honor the transactions that went through this evening. I can’t help but think this is good karma coming from listening to the 6.11.94 Red Rocks Set II earlier this evening. So just to reiterate: The Butter Room will be at all four Red Rocks shows and bringing you complete coverage, much like our Hampton coverage two weeks back.
Last night we learned Ticketmaster mistakenly put on sale a substantial number of four-day passes to Phish’s concerts this summer at Red Rocks Amphitheater, giving some fans an unfair advantage to purchase tickets ahead of the March 26th publicly announced on sale date.
Ticketmaster has fully acknowledged this significant error, and to make sure that all of our fans have the same, fair opportunity to purchase tickets to this event, they have cancelled all of these orders with all charges being refunded.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our fans. We are in active dialogue with Ticketmaster to push them to address the inconvenience their error has caused.
Phish takes this and all ticketing matters extremely seriously. We will seek assurances this type of error will not happen again in the future. The high demand for the tickets on Phish’s return has overwhelmed the prevailing ticketing systems and revealed their flaws. We are putting pressure on the ticketing providers to improve their systems. We are focused on the ticket broker activity in our tickets and the inability of the existing ticket systems to stop this. We are actively seeking options to limit this.
As a reminder, the public on sale date for Red Rocks is Thursday, March 26th at 12:00 noon Mountain time and additionally Phish’s ticket request period will remain open until 11:59 pm eastern time this Sunday the 22nd. Please visithttp://phish.portals.musictoday.com/ to request tickets.
Thank you for your continued support.

We will likely not be broadcasting video, but will be tapping into a full audience rig. You can view our stream live at thebutterroom.com and on our Qik page.
We’ll probably be floating around the lot pre-show for testing and to give you a look into the scene, but festivities should kick off shortly after 8 PM MDT. That’s 10 PM on the east coast. We’re unsure of what streaming conditions will be like, but we’re confident we can bring you some live coverage.

Rebirtha - Widespread Panic
06.28.02 - Red Rocks, Morrison, CO
Today marks the anniversary of Mikey Houser’s death. The “silent genius” had a huge impact on my life personally, and I’m sure many of you, too. He was confident, without ego, kind-hearted and genuine. His goal wasn’t to be the frontman lead guitar player for Widespread Panic. He was just the humble guy who sat in a chair, fan blowing in his hair, melting faces with a volume pedal.
This vid is from the the Red Rocks shows in ‘02, which was also my last run with Mikey on lead. He would play only a few more shows with his buddies and pass a couple months later. We all knew Mikey was sick and in pain, but still laying out every inch of his positive energy for us. Watch as JB walks over (around 2:40) and hangs out with his best friend.
I will forever miss the “lingering lead”. R.I.P. dear friend.

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
