11.20.92 - Palace Theater, Albany, NYOn Wednesday, Phish.com reported the sad news that Trey’s sister, Kristy Manning, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer:
She was one of Phish’s first fans and biggest supporters. In recent years, Kristy helped form and lead Trey’s non-profit endeavor, The Seven Below Arts Initiative.
Kristy was a loving sister, mother, wife, daughter, friend, and a role model for all. Her positive attitude, strength of character and continued outpouring of love and support left a profound impact on everyone she knew.
She will truly be missed.The Butter Room sends its sincerest condolences to Kristy’s family, and particularly Trey. You’ve been through a lot over the past few years Big Red, but your friends, family, and devoted fans have and always will continue to stand beside you. Stay strong, and know that we’ll be at be cheering you on 30 days from now as Phish’s first summer tour since 2003 kicks off.

12.13.97 - Pepsi Arena, Albany NYFive of the nine butter room residents were out on Wednesday night, and naturally the conversation turned to Phish, specifically about Mike’s Song. Lucky for us (and now you), Sparky reminded us of a hidden gem: the 12.13.97 “Bring in the Dude!” Mike’s Song. The band chants “Bring in the Dude!” throughout Mike’s, but they aren’t referring to the Dude of Life.

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
