Across 110th Street - My Morning Jacket 6.13.08 - Bonnaroo, Manchester TN I just finished listening to My Morning Jacket’s monster performance from Bonnaroo this year. This was a must post - Bobby Womack’s Across 110th Street with Jeff Coffin of the Flecktones and the Nashville/Louisville Horns.
“Vernon” Down the House - Phish

Vernon Downs, Utica, NY
Todd reminded me that this show was 10 years ago today. So, that makes it an anniversary for everyone who was there! In honor of this stupendously historic occasion I’ll post a few more gems from the show today.
This was the first encore (Y.E.M. was 2nd). In the first set they played Makisupa and the key phrase was “Burnin Down.” The boys did 3 covers in this show: this, La Grange, and Ramble On. All were great. La Grange is already posted here (see below) so I guess I’ll have to follow up with Ramble.

Hampton Coliseum
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Shows at Hampton Coliseum are colossal. This was my very first concert ever, ever. I was 14 years old. Me and a friend got to go without parents in tow. It was general admission and we had no idea what to do when they opened the doors. We were literally the first ones there. We decided we weren’t ready for the floor and so we sat to the right of the stage in the first row of seats off the floor.
I’m posting this song first (got the whole show from u2start.com) because I remember it so distinctly; Bono talking about how 4 chords changed him and could change the world. Listen about 4:30 in where he asks for someone from the audience to come up and play with them. I can see it in my mind’s eye like it was yesterday.
This is bringing back some great memories. More to come…
Worth a listen for the Heavy Metal Jam alone. Who is Joe Rooney you ask? Joe is a member of a “Power Metal Band” from Tampa, First Born. Check out their myspace page and have a listen to “Born to death”, “Death becomes her”, or “Red pain blood drain” or better yet just listen to this 20 minute treat from Tampa in ‘93.

The Butter Room was built to spread and discuss live music. The contributors of this site all volunteer their time to provide the content. We do this as a labor of love. Our name, The Butter Room, references an small, low-lit room in a Virginia Tech Fraternity with nothing but a few benches and tables. You go there to get away from all distractions and have a conversation, which is what we want to foster here: a place where you can get away from all the distractions of life to enjoy and discuss live music.
